  • (1888PressRelease) June 06, 2011 - New York, NY - Bill White, Chairman and CEO of Constellations Group and retired Intrepid President announced that the Constellations Group Foundation will donate $10K to the family of the Marine who died tragically in the early morning hours of May 26th during New York's annual Fleet Week celebration.

The 22 year old Marine, dressed in full uniform, was struck by a car and killed as he was headed back to his ship, the USS Iwo Jima. The Marine reportedly exited a taxi and began crossing W. 49th Street when the tragedy occurred. In light of this sad event, Bill White, a longtime advocate and supporter of our nation's military personnel and their families, announced early this morning that the Constellations Group Foundation will donate $10K to the family of the young Marine. Lance Corporal Jorgenson is survived by his wife Hope Martinez.

Fleet Week, a New York City annual event since 1984, is held in order to honor the U.S. Armed Forces and their families that so proudly dedicate themselves to serving our nation. The seven day event is traditionally a time for celebration that includes the opportunity for the public to tour visiting ships as well as the Intrepid, a longtime fixture to the New York Waterfront. There are also a variety of military demonstrations and displays and various events that allow the community to interact with and connect to our nation's military. In light of this horrible tragedy; many are, once again, reminded of just how fragile life is.

"It is unfortunate that this young Marine was taken from his family and our nation during a time dedicating to celebrating and honoring his commitment to our country," noted Bill White. "Words cannot express our gratitude, love and respect properly and thanks for all this young Marine has done for our Country. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Jorgenson family and our Marine Corps family at this difficult time." White was inspired to make this contribution in honor of his lifetime work with legendary philanthropist Zachary Fisher. President Clinton said of Fisher when presenting the Presidential Medal of Freedom to him, "No single individual in the history of our Country has given more philanthropically to our troops and their families than Zachary Fisher". White was Fisher's Chief of Staff for the last 8 years of his life. Fisher died in 1999.

Bill White and the Constellations Group Foundation delivered the check and a note of gratitude thanks and heartfelt condolence to Colonel Francis Donovan, CO of the 24 MEU and are encouraging others to show their support in whatever capacity they are able. Whether in monetary form, words of kindness or in prayer, Bill White is reminding us all to take a moment to offer our support to the family of our young fallen Marine and to all of those that dedicate themselves to serving our country.

Bill White encourages people who want to honor our nation's military to please go to the Fisher House Foundation at www.fisherhouse.org, the United War Veterans Council at www.unitedwarveterans.org or the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org . Please donate and support these very worthy and important efforts generously.
