  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) September 16, 2014 - Award-winning film composer/musician Heitor Pereira will receive the "Achievement in Film Music Award" for career achievement at The Big Bear Lake International Film Festival (BBLIFF). The honoree ceremony will be held on the opening night of the festival, Friday, September 19 at 7:30PM/PST at the Performing Arts Center in Big Bear Lake, California. Presented by the City of Big Bear Lake and hosted by Northwoods Resort, the 15th edition of the festival runs from September 19-21.     Heitor Pereira became known to millions early in his career as the guitarist for Simply Red, the British rock group which has sold over 50 million albums worldwide. Pereira discovered film composing when he was brought in as a songwriter on producer James L. Brooks As Good As It Gets. Impressed with Pereira's melodies and arrangements, Brooks brought Pereira in on his next film, Riding in Cars with Boys, which Pereira co-composed. Pereira's composer credits include Despicable Me 1 & 2, The Smurfs, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, A Little Bit of Heaven, Curious George 1 & 2 and Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. Pereira has arranged or played with artists including Sergio Mendes, Jack Johnson, Bryan Adams, Elton John, Willie Nelson, Shania Twain, Seal, and Nelly Furtado. Pereira received the 2005 Grammy for "Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist" for his collaboration with Sting and Chris Bottie. Pereira is currently scoring The Minions, the follow-up to the Oscar® nominated Despicable Me 2.

    Director Lucy Walker will also be honored with the "Achievement in Directing Award" for career achievement at The Big Bear Lake International Film Festival (BBLIFF).
