April 23, 2009 - The concept of spring cleaning will be taken to a whole new level Saturday, April 25th, when El Rodeo Elementary School students break out the shovels and organic cleaning supplies. “ER is Greener, ER is Cleaner, School Beautification Day” is a collaborative effort of the El Rodeo School community and the PTA.
As a culmination of Earth Day, being celebrated around the world this week, ER students and families will roll up their sleeves this Saturday from 10:00am to 2:00pm. They will be involved in two “green” projects: planting new gardens and cleaning common areas of the school with organic cleaners. The kids will create their own non-toxic cleaning solutions to be used on campus.
“We are going to get out in the brilliant sunshine and have fun together making windows sparkle, digging holes for plants and joining together to make our school beautiful!”, ER Principal Pat Escalante said.
ER parents Mark Freeman and Marty Halfon came up with the concept. “The primary focus will be to re-landscape the entry of the school, enhancing ER’s amazing architecture,” said Freeman. Halfon added “We have assembled an incredible team in conjunction with the PTA to create this project.”
Donations for the Westside Food Bank’s “Extra Produce Collection” are requested to be brought on Saturday. These donations should be “home-grown.” Wear a red shirt, bring your shovel and come join in the fun! ER is expecting 100% participation from its student body.
Going Green is a reality at El Rodeo where students, parents and teachers come together to help protect the environment. Saturday’s program is one more example of how students can participate and learn how simple things can really make a big difference!
