Bernard Krooks to Moderate Northeast Elder Law Symposium

Suffolk University Law School and the Massachusetts Chapter of NAELA.

(1888PressRelease) October 01, 2009 - National Association of Elder Law Attorneys present a yearly course of study in which elder law practitioners throughout New England, New York and New Jersey discuss the impact of current issues on their clients. The Symposium will be held from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm on Friday, October 2, 2009, at Suffolk University Law School, Boston.

The 2009 Symposium is entitled “Elders in the Fast Lane: Addressing Interstate Issues.” Discussions at the symposium will focus on the effects of state and jurisdictional differences in the application of elder law and estate planning in an increasingly mobile society.

The morning panel will concentrate on issues that may vary depending upon the state in which an individual is domiciled. Benefits for same sex marriage partners, accessibility of trust assets, protection of elders through guardianship and conservatorship petitions, and basic Medicaid eligibility criteria for individuals who move from one state to another will be examined.

The afternoon program will focus on case law, with attendees learning of recent victories and challenges having the potential to affect all elder law practitioners.

Mr. Krooks will be moderating an afternoon discussion of recent litigation related to the allocation of settlement proceeds from personal injury cases, Special Needs Trust administrations, nursing home litigation against residents and attorneys in fact.

Bernard A. Krooks, Esq., is a founding partner of the law firm Littman Krooks LLP, with offices in New York City, White Plains, NY, and Fishkill, NY. He is past President of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, a fellow of NAELA, past Chair of the NAELA Tax
