  • (1888PressRelease) May 05, 2015 - More than 300 brokers, HR and benefits professionals gathered in San Diego, April 21-23, for the 5th Annual Benefits Technology Summit. The three-day conference featured networking, live panel discussions and keynote presentations regarding the importance of technology in today's competitive and challenging benefits world. Other topics included ACA compliance, wellness, product innovation and a preview of the enhanced bCEnroll by benefitsCONNECT®.

In his controversial keynote addresses, "The Changes Occurring in Health Insurance" healthcare economist and speaker Paul Zane Pilzer, emphasized the importance of both the broker and technology in today's ever-changing market.

"To deliver a powerful message, we brought in innovative and somewhat disruptive thought leaders like Paul Zane Pilzer. Of course not everyone will embrace some of Pilzer's philosophies, but that is what conferences like this are about - thinking out of the box and looking at situations in innovative and new ways" said benefitsCONNECT® and conference founder Troy R. Underwood. "Our entire industry has been forced to do this, and with the right technology and tools, brokers will be well-positioned to thrive. It's just a matter of making the necessary changes."

    Other conference highlights included:
    • Opening session speakers Michael Susi, Global Wellness Manager of LinkedIn, and Ping Chen, Senior Product Marketing Manager for FitBit, who discussed how employers can cultivate a culture of health using innovative technology.

    • A well-received panel discussion, "The Secrets of Compliance Success," during which NAHU Sr. VP of Government Affairs, Jessica Waltman and NAHU Immediate Past President, Thomas Harte discussed how benefits professionals can use compliance knowledge to generate new business, increase client retention and increase profitability.

    • Rick Lindquist, President of Zane Benefits outlined how health benefits are quickly transitioning to an Amazon.com experience where employees manage their own benefits and employers simply provide contributions, thereby massively changing the role of employee benefits advisors and HR professionals.

    • Ryan Patel, Pinkberry Vice President of Global Business Development shared different selling strategies and examples, along with the importance of protecting the brand and partnering with quality.

    • Daily after-hours networking events such as Bayfront kick-off party, and an exhibit area with over 20 exhibitors.

Once an intimate benefitsCONNECT User's Conference, the Benefits Technology Summit has almost tripled in size since the previous show. "Technology plays an increasingly imperative role in our business; there seemed a need for a conference that focused on how the benefits industry can leverage technology in new and innovative ways to address the many challenges and opportunities ahead. That's why we decided to open up our bC users group to non-users as well. Anyone who's serious about improving their business and the industry can benefit from attending this conference."
