Beginner's Gentle Yoga Classes From Asian Classics Institute Starts On Cape Ann

ACI-Cape Ann starts classes for novices.

Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) May 12, 2009 - For those who've never tried yoga, are too stiff, or considered themselves too inflexible, ACI-Cape Ann's Dr. Pat O'Brien has created a Beginner's Gentle Yoga Class that meets every Saturday at 9:15 AM at the Vajramudra Center, 154 Granite Street, Rockport, MA. Over the many years that Dr. O’Brien has been teaching Yoga, many of her students have asked for a slower pace class: one where they could ease into the practice before venturing on.

To this end, Dr. Pat launched Beginner’s Gentle Yoga classes for ACI-Cape Ann to provide an understanding of exactly how and why yoga works. The simple poses help to work out your aches and pains. These classes will provide support for and understanding of correct alignment and breathing techniques in basic yoga postures. Helping students, at the beginners level, to understand this ancient practice of yoga is unique to Pattie’s classes. As Jean Roberts, one of Pattie’s students, said; "This is like no other yoga teaching I have ever had. Pattie explains everything so you understand why it works and how it works and how to keep working. And if you don’t get it she'll tell you again."

The classes are open to all by donation, which is suggested at $10. Dr O’Brien has an open and inclusive way with her classes, individualizing the instruction for each student. “By providing variations to postures so everyone can flow together in class in a safe and effective manner,” Shiela Wilson, another student, said, “Pattie easily guides and challenges both beginner and advanced beginner at the same time. Her clear way of teaching the importance of yoga, breath, strength and having fun creates an environment where students really focus on the practice”. Novice Geoff Richon, felt equally at home in the classes; "As a neophyte yogi I feel accepted and honored to be in Pattie O’Brien’s class every Saturday morning.”

The Venerable Lama Sumati Marut, a Buddhist Monk and founding Board member of and staff instructor for the Yoga Studies Institute in Tucson, Arizona, was equally effusive when Pattie announced her intentions to create classes for ACI in Rockport. "Cape Ann is fortunate indeed to have Dr. Pat O'Brien offering yoga classes," Lama Marut wrote. "While there are many yoga teachers nowadays, there are very, very few who can teach what I call the "whole enchilada" yoga, that is, yoga in all its dimensions. Patti is one of them. When you come to her class, you can be confident you are in the hands of a trained master."

Beginner’s Gentle Yoga classes will help you in your everyday life. As Pattie tells all students attending her classes, "bring your enthusiasm, open heart and a yoga mat."
