August 03, 2007 - Be sure to have a first aid kit at the ready.
Donna Sheehey, CDO at Zoomin Groomin Mobile Pet Spa of Norwell, shares tips for creating a first aid kit to be kept in the house or taken on the road along with your pet:
A board or a blanket which can be used as a stretcher.
Rope or soft cloth to use as a muzzle. (Not to be used if your pet is vomiting.)
Nonstick bandage (Ace bandage).
3% Hydrogen Peroxide
Towels or cloth to control bleeding.
Gauze and bandage material to wrap wound.
Adhesive tape.
Saline eye flush.
Syringe or eyedropper for medicating.
List of emergency phone numbers.
According to Sheehey, If you as a pet owner have the knowledge of basic pet first aid and put together a first aid kit, then the care, treatment and prognosis for your pet will improve significantly.
