July 13, 2009 - Barry Young is Senior Advisor, Consultant to Display Search. Being one of the industry's leading authorities on OLEDs and flexible displays, Young has originated all of Display Search’s OLED and Flexible Display intelligence and has visited and consulted with most of the OLED manufacturers worldwide. He has been published in numerous technical display journals and has spoken across the world on the display industry.
Recently Young was being video interviewed regarding about his Plans and upcoming activities and the next steps for OLED. According to him, this late year 2009 or 2010 it is Possible that OLED will be releasing the largest Panels in mass production that requires at least 4-up panel efficiently viable. As of now, the Largest AMOLED funky is Samsung Mobile Displays (SMD) at 730x460 (1/2 Gen 4). Samsung Mobile Displays has shown a 14.1 inches prototype and LG Displays has 15.1 archetypes.
And also SMD has shown a 31” TV and Sony has shown 27” TV. It is possible that this both wares will be available in low volumes and high value in year 2010. Young also mentioned during his interviewed regarding Apple Products with OLED and says that Apple tested AMOLED early on when Sanyo Kodak released a product but then Apple has been hesitant to use OLED before because of the capacity and some other issues but according to him maybe in time Apple may like to reconsider on the basis of some of the new products released by Samsung Mobile Displays.
Young says that they are fully working on to the white Papers to better put a figure on the differences between AMOLEDs and TFT LCDs. Like luminance considering color gamut, contrast ratio and gray scale. And as indicated by Young he focuses on the main problems for the mass production for OLED panels. On his interviewed he outlines the main problems and the obstacles that must be solved in order to reached the larger fab sizes.
Moreover, Young says that one of the early challenges facing the industry is marketplace perceptibility. The modern technology will be opposing with technology that overshadow the display and solid state lightning markets. OLED-A will be a source of information to the media and to eventual consumers of OLED Products. So, leave no stone Unturned for OLED because everything is Up for grabs!
