October 16, 2008 - Bangkok Hospital is now offering health check-up packages to 31-45 year olds at reduced rates, promoting early detection of many conditions and reducing the impact on patients' health, finances and their health systems.
The large, award-winning research and treatment hospital has created a check-up plan specifically tailored to the conditions that are common in this period of adulthood. This plan is available at the special price of 8,100 BT (approximately US$240 at current exchange rates). This represents a saving of many times the usual cost of all of these diagnostic tests, even in countries with socialized healthcare. For example, in Australia, the abdominal ultrasound alone which is offered with this package would be a cost to the patient of approximately AU$150.
The package is available from now until the 31st of December, 2008.
As with most of the hospital's check-up plans, the 'Supreme' plan for 31-45 year olds includes:
• a physical examination,
• a complete blood test for red and white cells,
• a fasting blood sugar test, to monitor the metabolism of sugar and detect the early stages of diabetes,
• tests for several enzymes which indicate the normal functioning of the liver, tests for triglycerides in the blood as well as HDL and LDL (bad and good cholesterol), to indicate the risk of heart disease
• creatinine monitoring, to indicate the health and functioning of the kidneys
• a chest x-ray to investigate lung health
• a urine exam to check for abnormal factors
However, the Supreme plan also includes tests over and above these standard tests, like:
• EKG test to monitor the electrical activity of the heart and catch irregularities early
• A hearing screening
• An exercise stress test, which indicates heart health
• A full abdominal ultrasound to detect abnormalities in all abdominal organs
Many of these tests are geared towards early diagnosis of heart conditions such as heart disease, which is one of the leading causes of death worldwide in men and women over 40.
It is critical in conditions such as diabetes, many forms of cancer, and heart disease that symptoms and signs are recognized early. This avoids damage to major organs, reduces the complications of treating the condition, and betters the prognosis for a normal life after treatment.
