November 13, 2008 - Bangkok Hospital has launched their non-painful delivery package, which at 48,000 Thai Baht, or US$1,400, reduced up to 90% of the cost for many families.
The non-painful delivery package is available from now until December 31, 2008.
The groundbreaking package includes:
• Doctor's fee for pediatrician, obstetrician and anesthetist
• Use of delivery room and staff
• Single room for mother, nursing service and meals
• Room for newborn baby and 48-hours of nursing services
• Medical equipment and anesthetic used in delivery
• Equipment used for a spinal block
• Medicine and supplies used in the hospital stay
• Lab examinations for the mother if necessary
• Lab examinations and vaccines for the newborn baby
• A gift set for the baby and the birth certificate charge are also included
The average cost of a normal vaginal birth in the US is around $8,800 according to recent research, while the average cost of a caesarian birth is around $11,000. Costs can run up to $24,000, with fees like $6,500 for services from a Birth Center, $9,800 for 2 nights stay at Neonatal Intensive Care, and $4,100 for 2 nights stay at the Maternity Ward for the mother.
While insurance will cover the cost of the procedure for many in the US, for those who find themselves unexpectedly pregnant, many insurance companies will refuse new service.
