Award-Winning Pianist To Perform With The Chamber Orchestra Of The Triangle

Louis Schwizgebel-Wang will be the guest soloist at The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle’s Sunday, Nov. 11 concert. The concert will begin at 3 p.m. at the Carolina Theatre in Durham.


(1888PressRelease) November 01, 2007 - CHAPEL HILL, N.C. —Lorenzo Muti, artistic director and conductor of The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, announces today that the orchestra's Sunday, November 11 concert will feature a performance by 19-year-old pianist Louis Schwizgebel-Wang. The 3 p.m. performance will be held at the Carolina Theatre in Durham.

The concert will consist of an all Mozart program: Piano concerto n. 21, with Schwizgebel-Wang as soloist; the overtures from "The Abduction from Seraglio" and "The Impresario"; and his Symphony n. 31.

“Young talents like Louis always make for an exciting time with the orchestra,” says Muti. “His enthusiasm is sure to energize the performance and performers.”

A native of Switzerland, Schwizgebel-Wang is gaining international recognition for his award-winning performances. In 2005, he was the top prizewinner in the Geneva International Competition. In 2006, he won the Young Concert Artists European Auditions in Leipzig. Most recently, he won first prize in the 2007 Young Concert Artists International Auditions.

Schwizgebel-Wang began his piano studies at the age of six. At the age of 15 he earned a “Soloist’s Diploma” at the Luasanne Conservatory. He is currently working with Pascal Devoyon and Jean-Jacques Balet at the Geneva Conservatory.

To emphasize their commitment to engaging young people with great classical music, the orchestra provides free seating at every concert to students of all ages.

About Louis Schwizgebel-Wang:
Born in 1987 in Geneva, Mr. Schwizgebel-Wang began his piano studies at the age of six with Franz Josefovski. He earned a "Soloist's Diploma" at the age of 15 under Brigitte Meyer at the Lausanne Conservatory. He is currently working with Pascal Devoyon and Jean-Jacques Balet at the Geneva Conservatory. Schwizgebel-Wang won First Prize in the 2007 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, after winning the 2006 Young Concert Artists European Auditions in Leipzig. He has also been awarded the Brownville Concert Series Prize (Nebraska); the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle Prize (North Carolina); the Princeton University Concerts Prize, the Usedom Music Festival Prize (Germany); and the Vancouver Recital Society Prize.
