January 23, 2008 - Los Angeles, CA — Award-winning choreographer Shane Sparks, best known for his infectious personality and imaginative dance routines, will be one of the stars on the highly anticipated MTV series “Randy Jackson Presents: America’s Best Dance Crew.”
Shane Sparks rose to fame as the most recognizable judge and choreographer on Fox’s hit TV show “So You Think You Can Dance.” Prior to his televised fame, Sparks choreographed for A-list musical artists such as Ak’sent, Lindsay Lohan, Marques Houston, Omarion, among many others. In June 2007, Dance Camera West praised Sparks and his accomplishments in their inaugural Choreography Media Honors.
Now in his new series, executive producer Randy Jackson (American Idol) comes together with MTV to bring dance crews from the street to the stage in the thrilling new show – set to premiere Thursday, February 7 2008 at 10:00 PM ET/PT. This is the first dance series to ever feature dance crews, and not dancers individually.
A live casting of the show will air on MTV Saturday, January 26 2008 at 2:00 PM ET/PT. The eight dance crews that will compete each week on “America’s Best Dance Crew” will be revealed in this casting special. Each dance crew will have five to seven members, and are dancing for a cash prize and touring contract. Viewers will determine the two weakest teams each week, and they will battle in front of the judges to stay in the competition. One team will be eliminated each week. Mario Lopez (Dancing with the Stars) will be the host of this thrilling new series, while JC Chasez (N’Sync) and Lil Mama (Jive Records) will be judging alongside Shane Sparks.
“I am excited to be a part of such an innovative show, there has never been anything like this before on television. Real dance crews from the streets. It’s incredible. We are going to keep the audience on the edge of their seats each week,” says Sparks.
In addition to Sparks’ work on the new MTV TV show, he will also be moving forward on his Morgan Creek film, “Backdown” as producer and choreographer alongside Chris Stokes (You Got Served).
