Charlotte-Gastonia-Rock Hill, NC-SC (1888PressRelease) May 08, 2007 - Authors Jon Batson, Stacey Cochran and Gene Curtis will be featured on a panel discussion on “How To Get Published” at the Main Library in Charlotte on May 19 from 3–5pm. Also on the panel will be a representative from Lulu Press. The panel will address the benefits and procedures of self-publishing, marketing on a budget and other information relevant to local writers. An audience Q&A and book signing will follow. There is no charge for the event.

This is the fifth in a series of presentations moderated by Stacey Cochran (www.StaceyCochran.com), NCSU professor and author of the suspense novel, The Colorado Sequence. The next one is at Osondu Bookstore in Waynesville, NC the following day. Jon Batson will be setting up similar events in South Carolina and Georgia to start.

“The response to what we are doing has been terrific,” said Cochran. “When we started doing these we wondered if anyone would actually show up! The numbers we are drawing to the events shows there are hundreds of people who have a story to tell and want to see what they have written in print.”

Jon Batson (www.JonBatson.com), award winning short story writer and author of the action adventure The Rands Conspiracy, The Songwriters Hook Book and the soon to be released sci-fi novel The Trasaron Chronicles, says he publishes his books through Lulu, a producer of print-on-demand books in Morrisville, NC. “Lulu makes it easy for me. They don't charge up-front fees and I retain control of my content and especially my copyrights; which as a songwriter I know is important.”

Gene Curtis (www.GeneCurtis.com), author of the fantasy The Seventh Mountain: Chronicles of a Magi, rounds out the panel. “There’s a paradigm shift occurring in the publishing world right now and self-published titles doing well in the online bookstores are being picked up by publishers and agents. It would seem the view about self-publishing is changing and becoming the new way to submit a manuscript.
