August 20, 2008 - Morgan St. James, co-author of the zany Silver Sisters Mysteries series will be interviewed by talk show veteran Michael Dresser on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 At 10:30 am EST/1:30pm PST on Lifestyle Talk Radio Network, on the internet. The interview will include a discussion about how the sisters, who have lived in different states since they were in their early twenties, became best friends through creating this series.
If you miss the live broadcast, you can hear it after August 22 on the Silver Sisters Mysteries website, www.silversistersmysteries.com.
Morgan splits her time between Las Vegas and Southern California. Her sister, Phyllice Bradner, who lived in Juneau, Alaska most of her adult life, now lives in McMinnville, Oregon. Because Phyllice moved to Alaska at such a young age, they were never close.
Both sisters loved funny mysteries, and decided to create a series of their own with characters based upon their personalities. Identical twins Goldie Silver, an aging flower child antique store owner from Juneau, and Godiva Olivia DuBois, a manipulative, wealthy widow who writes her advice column, Ask G.O.D., from her Beverly Hills mansion, were born.
Morgan says Goldie is just like Phyllice, but only parts of Godiva are like her because she doesn’t live in Beverly Hills, gives lots of advice but doesn’t write a column and certainly isn’t as selfish as Godiva. In the series, the twins’ feisty eighty-year-old mother and uncle, former vaudeville magicians who love to dress up in costumes and go undercover, are the perfect foil as the sidekick “elder-sleuths.”
The sisters were raised in a fun-loving family, so some of their other characters are inspired by wacky family members and friends. Morgan and Phyllice are not twins in real life, but since the series debuted, whenever they are together, people ask if they are.
Their first novel in the series, “A Corpse in the Soup,” is a crazy romp through the world of TV chefs in search of a killer. Available in all formats, including audio and MP3, published by Books in Motion, Inc. and the e-book and paperback, published by Wings e-Press, this whodunit garnered very favorable reviews. The audio version was selected as Best Mystery Audio Book 2007 by USA Book News. It can be found on Amazon, Borders and Target websites, and many libraries, or ordered directly from the publishers or independent bookstores.
The second book, “Seven Deadly Samovars,” is currently in production by Books in Motion, with release anticipated later this year, and the sisters are working on the third one, “Vanishing Act in Vegas.”
Morgan considers herself an accidental author. When she was an interior designer, she was asked to write some magazine articles, and after having several published, expanded the subjects she wrote about, explored short stories and finally graduated to novels. In addition to the Silver Sisters series, she is currently working on two stand-alone novels, one a funny book in the spirit of Nine to Five meets First Wives Club, and one drama that is a woman-in-jeopardy plot.
Her short stories can be found on Amazon Shorts and in “Chicken Soup for the Shopper’s Soul,” Chicken Soup for the Soul: Celebrating People Who Make a Difference,” and “Writer’s Bloc II.” She is a member of Sisters in Crime and Henderson Writers’ Group, and frequently appears as a speaker and on author’s panels.
This is sure to be a lively discussion, so tune in for a good laugh.
