Australian International School of Singapore (AISS) Expands Campus Network with 3Com Converged Solution

School deploys 3Com’s core-to-edge switching solutions and upgrades to the latest 3Com VCX IP-PBX telephony solution.

(1888PressRelease) April 05, 2009 - Bangalore – 3Com Corporation, a leading provider of converged network infrastructure solutions, today announced that the Australian International School of Singapore (AISS) has expanded its 3Com-based campus-wide network with the addition of new network switches and an upgraded Internet telephony (or voice over IP) system from 3Com. This follows the completion of a new four-storey building with classrooms for 800 students.

The expansion has also raised the network density at AISS to support the institution’s growing number of staff and students.

AISS has been a dedicated 3Com customer since it moved to its Lorong Chuan campus in 2003. “AISS evaluated proposals from several leading network suppliers for our network expansion project but chose to continue our partnership with 3Com as they provided the best value and performance,” said Scott Johnson, AISS Director of ICT. “We have also been impressed by the reliability of 3Com’s equipment over the years.”

The new building at AISS is powered by a 3Com® Switch 7758 modular Gigabit chassis at the core, 13 3Com Switch 5500 edge switches and seven PoE (Power over Ethernet) switches that serve 1,200 network points in total.

In addition, AISS also upgraded its 3Com NBX telephony system to the latest 3Com VCX IP-PBX solution that is designed to support the easy integration of messaging and collaboration as well as other interactive multimedia services.

Johnson said that 3Com’s experienced professional and support services were critical in fine tuning the network post-deployment. “3Com network engineers were quick to trace the root cause of some network spikes to an incorrectly configured wireless controller,” said Johnson. “And a few tough integration issues with the new VCX telephony system were quickly escalated and resolved by 3Com’s regional service support center in Australia.”

“The AISS experience demonstrates how 3Com has earned the loyalty of its customers through the robustness and price-performance of our solutions and especially with the quality of our professional services,” said Gene Ng, 3Com country manager for South Asia. “Our goal is to continue to improve our ability to meet customers’ needs and respond quickly to their problems.”
