Austin Academy Prepares For 25th Graduation Ceremony

The Austin Academy creates opportunities for underprivileged residents to receive a quality education.


Austin-San Marcos, TX (1888PressRelease) January 23, 2008 - For many of Austin’s lower income residents further education is a just a dream, due to the financial burden associated with an adult education. The Austin Academy assists these individuals by creating opportunities for underprivileged residents to receive a quality education. For Austin Academy students the quality education they receive leads to not just a job, but a career.

This year’s graduating class includes a total of nineteen GED and sixty computer/workplace certificate recipients. The Austin Academy will be conducting their annual graduation ceremony on January 24th, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. The ceremony will be held at Travis High School, located at 1211 East Oltorf.

The traditional cap and gown ceremony will be attended by academy staff,
instructors, volunteers, and of course, the graduates and their family and friends.

Austin Academy’s focus is to empower students with the knowledge and skills that will improve the quality of their lives and the lives of their family members. The academy offers courses in GED preparation, Computer Literacy, Workplace Training, and Adult Basic Education. The Austin Academy has had over 1300 graduates since the schools conception in 1994. In 2007 alone, the Austin Academy helped thirty five students obtain employment and fifteen students moved on to college education.

The Austin Academy is a non-profit organization, and needs the support and compassion of the Austin community. The academy is always seeking enthusiastic volunteers and encourages anyone who wants to help, but doesn’t have the time, to donate.
