  • Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) November 24, 2010 - A record number of families in America are experiencing serious financial difficulties during the current recession, and many children in the Raleigh community are suffering as a result. In an effort to support those children in the area affected by economic hardship, Assistance LeagueŽ of Raleigh, a local chapter of the national nonprofit Assistance LeagueŽ, has developed signature programs to help meet some of their basic needs. However, these programs require volunteers and financial contributions for success.

Assistance League of Raleigh is proud to announce that they were awarded a $1,500 grant from the Carolina Hurricanes' Kids 'N Community Foundation for implementing these programs in 2010. The check was awarded to Assistance League of Raleigh President Brenda Griffin on the ice between periods of the Hurricanes' November 6th home game against the Florida Panthers. The grant will go toward Assistance League of Raleigh's signature philanthropic program, Operation School BellŽ, through which it will be used to purchase new shoes for every child at the Hope Elementary Charter School.

"We're so glad to have organizations like the Carolina Hurricanes supporting our local efforts to help at-risk children," said Assistance League of Raleigh President Brenda Griffin. "The donations from their Kids 'N Community Foundation allow us to bring much needed aid to children in the Raleigh community who otherwise wouldn't have many of their basic needs met."
