September 29, 2009 - Encinitas-based Class-ACT, is conducting a unique art sharing program in two local schools that “links up” our children, with children in Cambodia.
The program consists of local children and Cambodian children constructing Photo Portfolios of their lives in their individual countries. The children use “one-time-use” film cameras, and take their own photographs, which are mounted in a portfolio.
On October 16 the instructor, and the executive director and board president of Class-ACT, will travel to Cambodia with our local children’s portfolios; conduct the program there, and then return with the Cambodian children’s portfolios, which will be shared with the children in the two participating elementary schools, Paul Ecke Central and El Camino Creek.
Parents at both schools are currently organizing fundraisers to support the school in Cambodia that Class-ACT has adopted. A Family Frisbee Tournament Fundraiser will take place at Paul Ecke Central School on Saturday, October 3 (11 – 2), and is open to the public.
Through this newly added global mission, Class-ACT allows children to develop a sense of global responsibility toward children in other parts of the world, and in doing so, the chance to grow as individuals and as committed citizens of the future.
Anyone who would like to participate in this Children’s Global Art & Culture Connection can help by calling Niels Lund, Executive Director of CLASS-ACT at (760) 436-3729, or find out more from their website www.ClassActArts.org.
