Artists Join Together To Help Young Girl With Cancer

Magic For Marissa will help family left high and dry by insurance company.

(1888PressRelease) July 31, 2007 - Santa Clara, CA. – Marissa Montufar is a 13-year-old girl with a passion for theater and music. She was also recently diagnosed with cervical cancer. And, as happens with many people today, the family’s insurance company is refusing to cover a large portion of her treatment costs. To help raise money to pay the overwhelming bills, a group of Bay Area music and comedy artists are presenting Magic For Marissa, a benefit event, on Saturday September 8th at Mission City Coffee, at 2221 The Alameda in Santa Clara at 8pm.

“I get so angry when we all pay so much for health insurance and they can’t even cover this girl’s cancer medication,” says Phil Johnson, leader of the event’s headlining band Roadside Attraction. “The whole Montufar family have supported me and my art for a long time, so it’s my turn to help them. I can’t make a grand statement like Michael Moore’s ‘Sicko’ movie, but I can sure get some of my artist friends and fans together to raise some money.”

The event includes top-notch entertainment from Roadside Attraction (rock/funk/comedy), Jonah and Timeless (star of the reality series Waiting 2B Discovered – R&B/Hip-Hop), and comedy from Justin McClure (San Jose Improv), Beth Schumann (Rooster T. Feathers), and Yayne Abeba (Cobb’s). There will also be a silent auction and raffle including autographed items from Criss Angel, Bret Michaels, Strata, Constantine Maroulis, and more. Plus original paintings, comedy tickets, and private house concerts. Tickets are just $15 with 100% of the money going to help Marissa Montufar pay for her cancer treatments.
