Gallery KH is pleased to present a new collection of vibrant and distinct paintings by the artists K. Silve & Carol Stewart. The Silve/Stewart opens June 3, 2011 through July 13, 2011. An opening night cocktail reception is scheduled for Friday, June 3, 5-8PM. All gallery events are free and open to the public.

"We are thrilled to be hosting a show that will literally burst with color. Silve and Stewart are artists who explore different subjects, but work together so magnificently in their exploration of color. The show promises to be a bright spot in our summer schedule," states Shannon K. Rather, Assistant Director of Gallery KH.

Portland, Oregon artist, K. Silve's artwork is derived from the energy and rhythms of life. She is fascinated by change and how life evolves. She feels sometimes the most beautiful and memorable parts of life are the unusual and imperfect things one finds in nature, or the unexpected turns life takes.

The artist uses layers of paint to create depth and a sense of history. Each layer of paint is dependent on the previous layer. Silve uses openings in the layers to reveal a history in the life of the painting. The drips present in her work illustrate chance happenings such as the randomness that occur in life. Silve's fluid strokes contrast with the raw and expressive marks creating a unity between emotions and interpretations.

Originally from Ontario, Canada and now residing in St. Louis, Carol Stewart's still life and tablescape paintings are characterized by a sophisticated play of color and light. When closely studied, her pieces convey a network of patterning and mark making that creates texture and energy. Stewart is inspired by flowers, plant life, and objects ranging from glass vases to fruit.

Recently Stewart has been working on a series of Chinese lantern paintings inspired by a trip to San Francisco. Whether the stage is set up in her studio or painted directly from nature, Stewart's painting succeeds both at close range and from a distance. The viewer is invited into the scene: an explosive field of color. Subsequently, depth is established, objects are weighted through their shadows, and subtle balance is expressed through reflections of light that dance across the surface.
