New York, NY (1888PressRelease)
March 28, 2007 - Luzerne Odell's canvases mix color with raw emotions. He presents singular figures whose lonely thoughts vibrate from the paintings and directly into the viewer's consciousness. One wants to talk to the models and ask them what they are thinking. The lonely figure in String Theory is typical of Odell's haunted subjects. They seem to be waiting for something — something that the painter lets us know may never happen.
Dreamlike landscapes and harsh reality blend in the painter's surrealist visions. A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Odell has escaped even the slightest hint of provincialism in his work. He studied at the California Institute of the Arts (formerly Chouinard Art Institute), and went on to earn a graduate degree from New York City's Hunter College. His evocative work has been exhibited in galleries in Paris, Belgrade, New York, and in Southern California
