Artist Draws Mazes to Help Kidnapped Israeli Soldier

Maze artist Yonatan Frimer has created maze portraits in a show of solidarity with kidnapped Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit.

(1888PressRelease) March 18, 2009 - Tel Aviv, Israel - Maze artist Yonatan Frimer has drawn and publicly released four “maze portraits” of kidnapped Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit. The illustrations where created in an ongoing effort to forge solidarity with the Shalit Family and for luring awareness to the fact that Hamas has kidnapped an Israeli soldier who is still being held hostage for nearly 3 years.

“One of my colleagues recommended the idea to me.” says Yonatan Frimer, 31, the artist of the portraits, “We noticed that with all the media buzz surrounding the possible release [of the captured soldier Gilad Shalit] by Hamas, there was still only a handful of pictures being rotated in the news and on the web, we had to do something, anything.”

Frimer, who typically draws mazes of celebrities and political figures for Ink Blot Mazes (http://www.inkblotmazes.com) quickly put his skills to good use and created several maze portraits of Gilad Shalit from four of the more common pictures in the news and web.. The images were submitted to the local press in Israel and also forwarded around the internet in grassroots chain emails.

“We’ve had our mazes published in newspapers many times in the past.” explained Frimer, “But this is the first time anyone from Ink Blot Mazes has created something that was used a political tool. We are all very proud of this development and intend to continue finding ways of inspiring political change through artistic impression.”
