Arizona Attorney magazine honored with top national award

Official State Bar Journal Recognized by Affiliate of American Bar Association.

Phoenix-Mesa, AZ (1888PressRelease) October 29, 2009 - The National Association of Bar Executives on Oct. 23 presented the State Bar a 2009 Luminary Award for Excellence in Regular Publications for the State Bar Arizona Attorney magazine. The State Bar also won a Luminary Award for Excellence in Special Publications for a 2008 booklet that recognized the 75th anniversary of the State Bar. Both awards were for the large bar category.

The State Bar was among 14 bar associations and their communications professionals to receive Luminary Awards during a conference in Las Vegas.

“These national awards recognize the caliber of work and service that our staff provides to our members and the public,” said State Bar President Ray Hanna.

“The State Bar is very honored that our peers at bar associations across the country have recognized our communication team’s high quality of work,” said John Phelps, State Bar CEO/Executive Director.

Arizona Attorney magazine covers substantive legal issues, professional trends and feature profiles. The magazine is published 11 times a year by the State Bar, and also won the Luminary Award in 2001. The 75th anniversary booklet contained historic photos and anecdotes about the State Bar and the Arizona legal profession.

Arizona Attorney magazine is available for free to anyone online by visiting the magazine's homepage at http://www.myazbar.org/azattorney/ and clicking on the magazine cover art to view the current digital edition.

“The NABE Luminary Awards provide recognition for excellence in the field of communications,” said Barry Kolar, assistant executive director of the Tennessee Bar Association and chair of the Luminary Awards Committee. "These award winners represent the best in their field nationwide, so they and their associations can be proud of this special recognition.”

The NABE Communications Section’s Luminary Awards program, created in 1992 and named for the New Mexican "luminaria," recognizes excellence in marketing, public relations, regular publications, special publications, electronic publications and Web sites.

Since its inception, the Luminary Awards competition has been sponsored by Thomson Reuters Legal.
