Phoenix-Mesa, AZ (1888PressRelease)
August 17, 2009 - Locally-owned Apex National Decorators, a full-service commercial and residential painting company, is inviting members of the greater Phoenix metropolitan community to join them in supporting the local Scottsdale-Paradise Valley YMCA, an organization dedicated to helping grow families and communities regardless of their financial situation.
As part of an on-going effort to encourage others to become involved in community-based charitable organizations, Apex will be volunteering time and services to the YMCA as well as organizing a fund-raising raffle event designed to help bridge the financial gap that the Scottsdale-YMCA is facing for its 2010 financial assistance budget, which allows local disadvantaged families to participate in programs that promote strong and healthy mind, body and soul.
Marianne Cox, Vice President of Apex, describes the “pay it forward” philosophy that has always driven her own personal work ethic and that of her company: “One of our core values here is that whatever Apex can do to help the community, we will do; it’s called doing the right thing. I believe that paying it forward is how the world should work. People have always helped me when I needed it and now we are in a position to help others who need it.”
Marianne, who also serves on the board of directors for the Scottsdale-Paradise Valley YMCA, is motivated in this “pay it forward” movement by her own upbringing and experiences. “The work with Apex and YMCA has given me the opportunity to have a voice, and a presence, in a position to turn around and be the one helping people. This is a way of expressing that,” she said.
One of the catalysts for this fundraising raffle event is the current economical situation, which has caused a pull-back of normal financial gifts to the YMCA but an increased opportunity for the organization to help individuals in need of financial assistance in order to participate in YMCA programs. Michael Cassidy, District Executive Director for the Scottsdale-Paradise Valley YMCA, explains, “This year has provided a particularly new challenge, as philanthropic support has also declined with the economy. Many people perceive Scottsdale to be affluent and without need…we see families from all socio-economic profiles needing some level of assistance.”
Many are unaware of the variety of programs offered to the local community by the YMCA, and their importance to those in need. “It is our objective to provide financial assistance to the extent possible to families in need of our programs, including after-school and preschool programs…we do our best to make all of our programs available to those that would otherwise not be able to afford them,” Michael said.
The Apex National Designers fundraising event will include raffle tickets sold for $25 each, in a contest where participants can win prizes supplied by the regional Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores, including drills and other items. Members of the public are invited to attend the Fall Family Fun-draiser on Friday, October 9th, from 5 to 9pm at the Scottsdale-Paradise Valley YMCA. Partners include Maggiore Consulting & Marketing, Yelp.com, Bobbie’s Flowers, Pour Masters, Butter & Me Cupcaked, China Mist Tea, and activities include entertainment and silent auction. Adults $10, children free with paid adult. All proceeds benefit the Scottsdale-Paradise Valley YMCA financial assistance budget.
