  • (1888PressRelease) May 30, 2014 - Apex Lifts is pleased to announce it has been chosen to modernise the lifts in one of the capital's most iconic building, the Lloyd's of London building in Lime Street.

The refurbishment project will see all 12 scenic lifts in the Grade I listed London building renovated by Apex, as well as three fireman's lifts and five tonne goods lifts. An iconic feature of the 28 year-old building, the scenic glass lifts are built on the exterior, and were the first of this type of lift in the UK.

"We are extremely excited to be the trusted partner and to be involved with modernising some of the most iconic lifts in London," says Warren Jenchner, Managing Director of Apex Lifts.

Built in 1986, designed by world famous architect, Richard Rogers, the lifts are not the only exterior feature of the 88 metre-high building. The water pipes, staircases, and electrical power conduits also on the outside, creating an uncluttered space on the inside of the building.

Work began on the refurbishment project at the end of March, when the first lift was craned out of the building on Lime Street. With minimal wind and the spring sunshine beaming down, the elevator car was effortlessly lifted out of the lift shaft and taken to the factory for refurbishment.

The project is due for completion March 2016. "We are making excellent progress with the project and are very much looking forward to seeing the renovated lifts in operation," concludes Jenchner.
