APEX En Espanol: Fitness Certifications Go Bilingual

AFAA debuts its first Spanish-only Certification workshops in the Los Angeles and Miami areas as an effort to meet a growing demand for Spanish-speaking trainers.

Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) June 16, 2009 - The Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, the world's largest fitness educator, announced this month that it is working with Bally Total Fitness and the YMCA chains in the Los Angeles and Miami areas to provide certification workshops for Spanish speakers in September 18, 19 and 20.

"APEX En Espaņol 2009" was created to satisfy a demand for qualified personal trainers and group exercise instructors in cities with a high Spanish-speaking population such as Long Beach, Calif., North Hollywood, Calif., Hialeah, Fla., and Miami. Both the Personal Trainer Certification and the Primary Group Exercise Certification exams are being offered at both cities.

In combination with AFAA's nationwide $99-a-day event, "APEX En Espaņol 2009" began taking registrations for its certification workshops on May 1. Registration details are at http://www.afaaapex.com or by calling 800-446-2322.

Early registration is highly encouraged for those interested in attending, due to the time needed to study and prepare for on-site written and practical examinations. Registration costs $99 per day, per program, not including study materials.

Fitness enthusiasts and sports athletes interested in an AFAA Certification are encouraged to attend.

A snapshot of the fitness industry shows that unlike the rest of the economy, health clubs in the United States gained a 3 percent increase in revenues to total $19.1 billion in 2008, according to the International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association.

Most health clubs, including chains like YMCAs, YWCAs, 24 Hour Fitness and Bally Total Fitness, employ AFAA-certified trainers and instructors. Personal trainers earn an average of $22 to $45 in hourly wages, according to the American Sports Data Company.

Certification costs, which may include study materials and exams, range between $500 and $1,000 with some companies, according to industry surveys. Still, certifications can cost less and take less time to earn than a college degree.

AFAA certifies in personal training, group exercise, Step aerobics and Kickboxing. In addition to those certifications, AFAA educates and trains people within other desired specialties that include Pilates, Yoga, Indoor Cycling, Injury Prevention and more.

In addition to local spots, $99-a-day AFAA Certification exams are scheduled in September at more than 14 U.S. cities, including metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles and New York. Additional international locations such as Germany, Italy and the Philippines are also available.

A full list of the workshops is available at http://www.afaa.com.
