(1888PressRelease) December 04, 2007 - Aon is celebrating its 20th anniversary through community projects – such as refurbishing an African Caribbean charity shop in London – and by treating every employee to their birthday off work.

Over 5,000 employees across the UK will all receive an extra day’s holiday over the next twelve months to commemorate the two decades since Aon was quoted on the New York Stock Exchange on 24 April 1987.

Stuart Fox, managing director of HR at Aon, commented: “Employees at Aon, like most in the industry, are experiencing a period of significant change. We wanted to recognise the contribution our individuals are making to the business by giving them the extra holiday. Aon operates a flexible benefits system and the most popular ‘bought’ benefit is additional holidays, with 20% of eligible staff opting for extra holiday this year. Therefore, the Aon 20 birthday holiday provides staff with a valued extra benefit. Having recommended this benefit to our HR clients, we’re glad to practice what we preach!”

Meanwhile, over 150 Aon offices around the world are participating in local community projects on or around that date with the theme ‘People Helping People’. From replacing electrical fittings at a Hackney charity shop to painting the music room at the Children’s Hospice Association of Scotland, employees have been encouraged to take part in these projects to thank local communities that have supported Aon over the last 20 years.

“The last twenty years have seen Aon achieve leading positions in insurance broking, risk management and HR consulting. As we continue to grow, we are keen to remain a fun place to work and build on our staff culture, around taking pride and bringing innovation.”

Notes to editors:

Pictured: Sarah Harrison, pensions administrator for Aon Consulting, is also celebrating her 20th birthday on 24 April, alongside Aon. Sarah joined six months ago and is already revising for her Qualification in Pensions Administration. Sarah’s Farnborough office will be celebrating her and Aon’s birthday by planting a tree and holding a balloon race in 80s fancy dress.
