This list was generated by Mr. Herman, the program's creator and patron of indepedently released music.

City Salvage Records alternative-country artist Andy Friedman earned the #1 position, having received the most airplay and exposure in 2008 on "Radio Crystal Blue." His newest CD, "Weary Things", is scheduled for a January 2009 release. Alternative rock duo Sirsy, who continue to ride the success of their 9th CD "Revolution", earned 2nd place for the 2nd consecutive year. Philpot, a band from the Midwest US with strong musical leanings toward The Beatles and Oasis, took 3rd place.

The annual airplay chart is an amalgamation of Mr. Herman's quarterly airplay charts, which track progressive amounts of airplay over a 3- and 12-month period. The remainder of the top 10 of this list include: #4: Anais Mitchell (Righteous Babe Records); #5: America's Sweetheart; #6: Natalia Zukerman (Weasel Records); #7: Ellis; #8: The Alternate Routes; #9: Crooked Still (Signature Sounds); and #10: Amber Rubarth.

With the highest average chart placement belonging to a debuting artist in the latter half of Dan's quarterly charts, the Long Island, NY-based band Corrientes earned the title of 2008's Best New Artist. Dan had spun music from their array of EPs plus a live field recording of his done at Spike Hill, in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, NY.

In addition, Mr. Herman announces his list of top 10 CDs released in 2008. At the number one position is "Brand New Frame" by Natalia Zukerman, followed in turn with #2: "Break The Spell" by Ellis; and #3: "Still Crooked" by Crooked Still.
