January 08, 2009 - AMS Group, the Redditch based provider of interior solutions for retail, healthcare and accommodation environments, has opened an office in Shanghai to manage and develop the increasing volume of product being sourced from China.
The company began purchasing from China in 2004 and has since seen volumes steadily and significantly increase, to the point where AMS felt the time was right to establish their own presence there.
“This is a major step forward for us,” commented Group Procurement Manager, Caroline Phipp. “Whilst we will still continue to work with our established partners out in China, having our own office will enable us to ensure that important quality and ethical standards are rigorously enforced. Our local management team will continually review and develop our supply base, in order to ensure that we offer best value on a project by project basis”.
The new office will be managed by Janet Quan who joins AMS from Hong Kong based Li & Fung, one of the world’s biggest trading companies, where she was Merchandising Manager, operating out of Shanghai.
“The establishment of the Shanghai office is a clear commitment by AMS to deliver their customer requirements at a lower cost, whilst ensuring the same exemplary standards associated with their established UK business continue to be delivered. I am thrilled have been given the opportunity to play such a key part in the companies global sourcing developments and with my team, look forward to representing the brand capabilities in Asia.”
Speaking of this important development for the business, AMS Group Managing Director Jim Clark said, “Out-sourcing of production is becoming an increasingly vital element in maintaining our competitive position. The opening of our Shanghai office will ensure we can offer carefully controlled and socially responsible global sourcing solutions. Matched with the quality and responsiveness of our UK based production, it will give us the necessary capacity and flexibility across our entire manufacturing base to meet the growing demands from our industry.”
