April 03, 2007 - A Clergy from New York's Episcopal church bid goodbye to his knee arthritis at an Indian hospital last week. GW, 55 year old Administrative assistant travelled half way round the world alone to go under the knife in Chennai's Bharathi raja hospital. South Indian surgeon Dr.A.K.Venkatachalam performed less invasive bilateral High flex knee replacements. GW, now totally releived from knee pain will be spending a week at a Spa recuperating and will return to duty by mid April.
Says GW, " Service here exceeds an American hospital in terms of quality, cost and efficiency". He plans to preach to his Church goers to travel to India to get their Knee & Hip operations done by the same surgeon.
Hailing from a family of three, none of whom have any arthritis, G, probably contracted arthritis by years of vigorous activities like Kneeling, climbing stairs, etc
Private treatment in the US was unaffordable since his company did''nt provide insurance cover. Medicare which provides free medical care is applicable to people beyond 65 years. GW, wanted a better quality of life as even walking a few blocks in Manhattan to his place of work was hard and painful.
Indian surgeon Dr.Venkatachalam' s website attracted his attention and he decided to avail the service from this Doctor after further verification
