May 18, 2008 - American Car Imports of London are taking orders now for the new 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid. The latest luxury SUV from Cadillac will be in the showrooms at the end of summer 2008 and initially just the standard wheel-base version will be available as a Hybrid.
This is an American Car that is a luxury SUV powered by an all new 2-mode Hybrid system, GM quotes figures improving the fuel economy of 45% in urban driving conditions. In GM’s view customers will now be able to enjoy all the benefits of a large luxury SUV whilst at the same time be happy in the knowledge that they have an environmentally friendly vehicle that is fuel efficient with an advanced vehicle Hybrid system.
The Escalade Hybrid will be available in 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel/all-wheel drive, all of the existing models very high level of luxury standard equipment is included and with the 8” touch-screen navigation system the performance of the Hybrid system is displayed for your information.
In city driving the advanced Hybrid system enables the vehicle to start off and drive at low, normal traffic speeds, on battery power alone. As more momentum and power is required there is a seamless transition to the 6.0 litre, 400bhp power of the petrol driven engine. The Hybrid system works in concert with the active fuel management system of the engine whereby under light driving 4 of the 8 cylinders shut down enabling the engine to be even more fuel efficient compared to other American Cars on the road today.
The electric power required to power the battery system is generated by the vehicle itself, when the brakes are applied the energy produced is stored in the 300 volt battery, the stored energy is called upon when required by what is known as the regenerative brake cycle.
The system is smooth and seamless in operation and has been adapted for this luxury passenger vehicle from technology already in use in fleets of Hybrid buses on the roads in many of the major Cities in the US.
Improved acoustic properties are a key feature of the new Escalade Hybrid with features that are unique to this particular version, such as:-
q A new exhaust system with a resonator tuned specially for this engine with an exhaust note tuned specifically for the engine whilst operating on 4 cylinders and on the full 8.
q An electrically driven 300 volt air conditioning compressor reduces vibration and allows the system to be used even when the petrol engine is shut off. With a cooling fan that is designed to be particularly quiet at low speeds.
q Electrically driven variable power steering reduces vibration and improves fuel economy compared to traditional belt driven systems.
