May 18, 2008 - The Dodge Ram is the full size American Pick Up Truck from Chrysler. The name was first used on Dodge hood ornaments on vehicles of the 1930’s and 1940’s and first used on a pick up truck back in 1981 on the then redesigned Dodge Ram and Power Ram. Dodge Ram Pick Up Trucks have been named Truck of the year twice by Motor trend, firstly in 1994 and the third generation Heavy Duty Ram won the award in 2003.
The current 2008 Dodge Ram is available in a wide range of configurations, 1500, 2500 or 3500 payload, regular cab, quad cab, mega cab, standard 6 foot 4 inch bed-length or extended 8 foot bed length and 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive. A wide choice of trim specifications is offered, ST, SXT, SLT, TRX4 Off Road, Sport, Power Wagon and Laramie.
The latest Ram has the 5.7 litre V-8 Hemi, OHV SMPI 16 valve engine with cylinder deactivation allowing 4 of the engines 8 cylinders to shut down under light or low speed driving therefore making the most of the economy available. As soon as you need a little power, on acceleration the full power of the 8 cylinders comes into play. The engine output is 345 bhp @ 5,200 rpm with 375 lb ft of torque @ 4,200 rpm, more than enough power and pulling ability to tow your boat, caravan or horsebox. The power output is controlled by a 5-speed electronic multi speed automatic transmission with overdrive.The four-wheel drive is selected by the electronic shift-on-the-fly system, allowing ease of selection through 2WD, 4WD high and 4WD low ratios.
Stopping power is supplied by front and rear vented disc brakes with a 4-wheel anti-lock brake system and the sedan like ride quality is controlled with independent front suspension and heavy-duty shock absorbers combined with rear leaf suspension.
The array of interior equipment includes dual zone front air conditioning, a premium AM/FM stereo radio with in-dash CD player with premium brand amplifier and speakers. Power door locks with 2-stage unlock, power windows with deep tint and 1-touch down for the driver, power adjustable pedals and power and heated adjustable exterior mirrors.
Seating capacity can be for up to 6 including the driver with the split front bench seat arrangement incorporating under seat storage, in the rear the split folding rear bench seat also incorporates under seat storage as well as the unique fold out load storage platform.
