American Academy Of Ophthalmology Exhibited Unique Tonometer Diaton At Annual Meeting

Unique Tonometer Diaton presented by BiCOM Inc. and Optimetrics Inc. at the AAO annual meeting, in Georgia. Diaton allows for intraocular pressure (IOP) screening, detecting possible Glaucoma. The American Academy Of Ophthalmology meeting is the largest floor exhibit in ophthalmology. Demo and training was provided.

(1888PressRelease) November 13, 2008 - Unique Diaton Tonometer was presented at American Academy of Ophthalmology AAO 2008. The meeting took place at the Georgia World Congress Center. This new technology was showcased by Optimetrics Inc. - an ophthalmic equipments and instruments distributor for ophthalmologists, optometrists and optical laboratories in the United States and Latin America. Demo and training was provided.

The American Academy of Ophthalmology is the largest national membership association eye care professionals including ophthalmologists, medical and osteopathic doctors who provide comprehensive care, including medical, surgical and optical care. More than 90 percent of practicing eye care professionals are members and the Academy. There are more than 7,000 international members, from countries such as Brazil, South America, The United Kingdom, Southeast Asia and many more.

With the unique Tonometer Diaton, BiCOM is challenging Glaucoma. Called the “sneak thief of sight”, it carries an increasing threat of preventable blindness to those worldwide. Diaton allows for screenings without the use of anesthetic drops and most importantly, no contact with the cornea. This makes screening easier than ever before, especially for children and seniors. Tonometer Diaton measures intraocular pressure (IOP) through the upper eyelid, which in turn does not require correction for corneal thickness and dramatically reduces possibilities of infection.

Tonometer Diaton is the perfect solution in the following cases when the use of other devices is problematic or impossible:

* Mass prophylactic screening of patients;
* IOP control during clinical observation of glaucoma patients;
* Ophthalmotone monitoring (even at night time);
* Orthoclinostatical probe, as an additional test to diagnose glaucoma during selection of the adequate hypotensive therapy;
* IOP measuring during contact correction (without need to remove contact lenses),
* IOP measuring in children.
* IOP measuring in immobilized patients;
* On patients with medicinal allergies;
* On patients with the following conditions: chronic conjunctivitis, cornea pathology, including keratitis, keratotone, cornea dimness, after penetrating keratoplastics, keratoprosthesis, laser refractive correction of the eyesight, high degree of ametropy, astigmatism;
* Lasik/ LASEK /PRK (recent clinical trials have proved that Diaton is the only device that can be used for IOP measurement right after these surgeries)

"Diaton tonometry" is a unique approach to measuring intraocular pressure (IOP) through the Eyelid. Non-Contact (no contact with cornea), no anesthesia or sterilization required with this pen-like, hand-held, portable tonometer.

Presenting recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease, the AAO annual meeting features the most extensive floor exhibit in ophthalmology. The American Academy Of Ophthalmology meeting was an educational opportunity for ophthalmologists and optometrists to obtain free training and to learn of the proven benefits of Diaton (transpalpebral) tonometry. Unique Tonometer Diaton’s ease of use and accuracy was received successfully from the attendees of AAO.

Optimetrics showcased a variety of new and used ophthalmic and optometric equipment such as slit lamps, autorefractors & phoropters, diagnostic lenses, ophthalmic lasers, tonometers, lensmeters & keratometers, topographers & specular Microscope among many other vision- related products.
