Alpha Phi Theta Omega Chapter at Barry University Concludes School Year With Numerous Accolades And Awards
Over 600 Community Service Hours Performed By The Theta Omega Sisters.
- Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) April 30, 2013 - Over 70 students, faculty, students and guests gathered at the Andres School of Business at Barry University on Thursday, April 18 to celebrate the accomplishments of Greek life on campus at the 2nd Annual Greek Awards Banquet. At the event, the Alpha Phi Theta Omega sisters were recognized for numerous accomplishments both on and off campus. During the Spring semester, the chapter obtained the highest GPA of all Greeks, with a 3.0. Sister Geraldine Bendezu was elected by her peers as Sophomore Homecoming Princess, Sister Stephanie Rolle was elected as Treasurer for the Student Government Association, and sisters Geraldine Bendezu and Whitney Aikens were elected to sit on the Executive Committee for the Campus Activities Board.
One of the highlights of the evening was The All Greek Council presenting the chapter with awards for both "Best Scholarship Program" and "Best Philanthropic Event." In addition, Chapter President Austin King was awarded one of the evening's highest honors, "Chapter President of the Year."
In addition to raising both funds and awareness for their national philanthropy, The American Heart Association, the Theta Omega sisters contributed more than 600 hours of community service over the course of the 2012-2013 school year. Service projects included volunteering with Zoo Miami, Ronald McDonald House Charities, The National Kidney Foundation, and The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation.
The sisterhood of Alpha Phi stretches from coast to coast through 159 collegiate campuses and more than 200,000 members. Sisters share a commitment to excellence and a strong desire to help one another and their communities.
