  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) December 12, 2012 - Alma Sheik paints impressionistic oils on canvas, teasing out the luminosity and richness of color that oils can provide to create appealing work that invites viewers to immerse themselves in the image. The artist luxuriates in her brushstrokes, which are varied and sensitive; they stand out in all her work, creating a sense of movement that draws the eye around the page. Sheik's subjects are typically abstracted natural forms, landscapes and still lifes that have their foundation in her perception of reality.

She uses objects and scenes as a conduit for her insights, and shares her observations with others through color, form, and movement. "I find that I am attracted to various objects, which I feel express something to me," she explains. "These objects then take on different shades, colors, and forms as I begin to allow my self-expression to influence the painting."
Alma Sheik was born in Suriname, and she made several moves during her life before ending up in Italy, where she currently resides. She participates regularly in solo and group exhibitions.
