  • (1888PressRelease) March 01, 2014 - As of February 14, 2014, Allied Wire & Cable has finalized the purchase of all Alan Wire inventory and machinery.

Alan Wire, based in Irwindale, California, recently closed its doors after 27 years serving the military and aerospace markets. Known by many as the go-to source for rare mil-spec cable constructions, Alan Wire was a perfect match for Allied and its ongoing efforts to expand its mil-spec inventory and meet customer demand for these parts.

As one of the largest mil-spec distributors in the country, Allied stocks a wide range of standard and hard-to-find military specification cables. With Alan Wire's product, Allied increases its already extensive inventory of M27500, M22759, and NEMA Type E wire products, and adds a number of new oddball mil-spec constructions to its stock. Allied also now stocks and distributes Judd Wire.

All wire and cable is being relocated from its previous location in California to Allied's Headquarters in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. Nine full trailers of product are making the journey across the country.

Allied has also expanded its in-house value-added service capabilities with the addition of two laser printers from Alan Wire. Laser printing offers a permanent printing solution that won't wear in tough environments, such as those encountered in many military and aerospace applications. Laser printing is an alternative to hot stamping, which is also used to permanently mark mil-spec cables, but that impacts the surface of the cable, potentially degrading its dielectric properties. With laser printing, radiation is absorbed into the material causing a reaction between pigments and producing a high-contrast, permanent marking without affecting the physical integrity or performance of the cable.

A twister, tape wrapper, braider, striper, and extruder will also allow Allied to increase volume on other existing value-added services.
