April 25, 2009 - Research division of private jet and helicopter services provider Airnetz Aviation today released estimates based on current market data in aviation that unveils some surprising trends in the aviation industry.
Airnetz Research Highlights :
1. Passenger traffic over schedule airlines increased 11% to 40.25 million passengers in 2008 from 35.79 million passengers in 2007. The same growth was 42% in 2007. (Source :DGCA)
2. Non-schedule operators in the country increased 50% to 99 in 2008 from 66 in 2007. (Source :DGCA)
3. Private Aircrafts in the country increased 22% to 275 in 2008 from 220 in 2007. (Source :DGCA)
4. Passengers carried by non-schedule operators increased nearly 70% to 604,368 in 2008 from 355,511 in 2007. (Source : Private market research)
5. Percentage of passengers carried by non-schedule operators as to schedule airline carriers increased to 1.5% in 2008 from 0.9% in 2007.
6. Cost for a 5- seater brand new private jet has come down to Rs. 8 crores, almost 90% from Rs. 80 crores back in 2001.
7. Minimum hourly charter cost for a 5-seater private air taxi has come down to Rs. 55,000. That also implies that per hour-per person charter cost for air taxi has come down to Rs. 11,000 ; 3.5 times more than a commercial airline.
8. A schedule airline in 2008 cost on an average Rs. 3,000 per hour per person.
9. Airnetz Research also estimates that by 2014, cost of flying in private air taxi will equal the cost of traveling in schedule commercial airline.
10. Airnetz Research estimates as per current market growth rates, that by 2019, passengers traveling in air taxi will grow to 128.44 million as compared to 114.29 million in schedule commercial airlines.
11. It is estimated that private air taxi industry by 2019 will grow to a mammoth Rs. 40,000 crore from a modest size of Rs. 760 crores in 2008.
