Fort Lauderdale, FL (1888PressRelease) January 15, 2009 - Academic Treks College (http://www.academictrekscollege.com) announces the launch of 20 new summer study abroad programs for college students focusing on marine science, language immersion, natural science and leadership development. Backed by over 15 years of experience in educational summer programs abroad, Academic Treks College is the newest division of Broadreach (http://www.gobroadreach.com), the leader in adventure travel and academic summer programs for teenagers. Since 1993, over 7000 students have explored the world with Broadreach.

Academic Trek College summer study abroad programs boast a unique course design that sets it apart from other summer study abroad courses. Their three to four week summer courses combine the finest elements of experiential learning, traditional classroom learning and service learning with international travel and cultural exchange to create exceptional expeditions and study abroad opportunities.

Program destinations include some of the most pristine and extraordinary environments in the world, surrounded by intriguing cultures. Academic Treks College students study in the Caribbean, the South Pacific, Africa, the Galapagos, China, Iceland, Central America and Canada.

Academic Treks College is currently accepting applications for summer 2009. Science course offerings include Marine Resource Management, Shark Behavior and Conservation, African Wildlife Conservation and Tropical Ecology. Language immersion courses are available in Spanish, French and Mandarin Chinese. Leadership courses include PADI (Professional Association of Dive Instructors) professional training, IYT (International Yacht Training) sailing certifications, Wilderness Medicine and outdoor leadership.

In addition to traditional lectures and classroom discussions, students participate in laboratory or field work, as well as meaningful community service projects which allow them to gain a firsthand understanding of topics studied in a real world setting. Field trips and cultural workshops complement the educational experience.

Director Carlton Goldthwaite believes strongly in the value of experiential education and the benefits that come from hands-on learning within a field of study. He states, “Our courses are carefully designed to achieve our primary objectives: real world educational experience, cultural awareness, environmental stewardship, personal growth, fun and exploration of our world. The experiential component of our courses brings the academic content to life in a way that is not possible if you stay within the classroom.”
