“I had this idea about ten years ago. I was searching for a way to fasten natural branches to birdcages so my birds could use tree clippings as perches. Nothing was available. I then thought I’d build it myself,” says Thomas, a resident of Oak Hill, VA.
For the next few years, Thomas painstakingly put together early prototypes and made alterations. Finally satisfied with the design, he decided to have his invention patented. After two years, in April of 2002, Thomas received his first and only patent to date. Through local ads and the Internet, he began the arduous process of selling his handmade bird perch holders. He soon realized that in order to really produce and sell his idea he needed help.
“That’s when I received a letter from AbsolutelyNew. They saw my patent and offered to help me get my invention to market. I had received several solicitations from other companies but I decided to go with AbsolutelyNew because of their track record, especially with pet products,” says Thomas. AbsolutelyNew currently represents 46 pet related products in addition to hundreds of other products in more than twenty-five categories.
With the help of AbsolutelyNew’s licensing team, Prevue Pet Products was recently selected to license Thomas’ invention. “Prevue Pet Products will maintain the integrity of my invention and be able to manufacture it in numbers so that it can be available in pet supply stores nationwide. With AbsolutelyNew on my side, manufacturers paid attention to me. They were invaluable with their expertise and negotiating skills,” says Thomas.
