A Passion For Ice Cream And Art

J.P. Licks Announces Featured Artists in Jamaica Plain, Mission Hill and Coolidge Corner Stores

(1888PressRelease) November 16, 2006 - DATELINE: BOSTON; BROOKLINE; JAMAICA PLAIN; NEWTON CENTRE; SOMERVILLE AND WEST ROXBURY, MA… Several local artists will be showcased at J.P. Licks Homemade Ice Cream Café’s Jamaica Plain, Mission Hill and Coolidge Corner shops over the next month.

Jason Healy’s abstract paintings will be featured throughout the 659 Centre Street shop in Jamaica Plain. A native of New York, Healy has settled his studio in Easthampton, Mass. He received a B.A. in English from Vassar College, completed a teacher training for Waldorf schools at Rudolf Steiner College in Sacramento and earned a Masters in Art Therapy at the Tobias School of Art and Therapy in Sussex, England.

Healy has assisted and co-taught expressive painting therapy retreats with painter and therapist Aviva Gold. He studied oil painting technique at Numael Pulido's School for Classical Painting in New Hampshire and most recently he has taught oil painting at the Eliot School for Fine and Applied Arts in Boston.

Alongside Healy’s, the abstract works of local artist Jennifer Ellwood will also be on display in Jamaica Plain. Ellwood’s early still life paintings were concerned with objects and their relationships to one another, and this interest continues to infuse her abstract work. As Ellwood explains, “My painting explores objects in balance, out of balance, touching, separate, dynamic, or stuck.”

In J.P. Lick’s Mission Hill shop, located at One Brigham Circle, the seasonal works of Vanessa St. Laurent will be displayed throughout November and December. St. Laurent holds a BFA in Illustration from Massachusetts College of Art and much of her work is representational painting with oils, acrylics, and watercolors on a large scale. Among her work being shown is “Holiday Art” and “Ice Scream”. She is a native of Medway, Mass. For more information about this artist, visit her website at www.vanessastlaurent.com.

The photography of Sue Greenspan will be on display in the Coolidge Corner store (311 Harvard Street, Brookline) over the next month. For more information about Greenspan, visit her website at www.ploase.com/sgphotography.

“Bring your appetite and feast your eyes on these artists’ great works,” noted Vince Petryk, owner and founder of J.P. Licks.
