June 01, 2007 - The Graduate Jobs Southampton project has been set up to help local small to medium sized employers (SMEs) in Southampton and Hampshire to access University graduates. The website is also designed to allow students and graduates to access some of the best jobs in the area.
The website uses a sophisticated system which matches jobs and graduates according to a variety of criteria including skills and salary details. To aid the process emails are sent to the relevant parties to keep them updated of new matches and their application status.
Who can use the system?
The Graduate Jobs Southampton website has been designed for two types of users.
• Any graduate or undergraduate from any University looking to start or change their career in the Southampton area
• SME employers in the Southampton area who want to employ graduates
The aim of the project is to increase mutual awareness of SMEs & graduate’s needs and benefits in the SO post code area. This awareness and communication will occur through a web portal and through business, training and personnel development advice.
A winning start
In the first two weeks of the Graduate Jobs Southampton website going live nearly 200 students and graduates had registered along with dozens of local employers.
Meredith Pollock from Southampton Solent University quoted “So far the website has been such a great success. Previously our jobs revolved around paper work and telephone calls but now we have our web portal and it has made our lives so much easier! It gives me great pleasure knowing that we are helping students and graduates to find jobs and making the long, hard and sometimes stressful process an easier one.”
Andy Headington of Adido Solutions Limited added “The website allowed us to use some of the latest development technologies to create an interactive experience for both sets of users. This project shows how effective use of the Internet can save time, improve communications and positively impact on the people in Southampton”
