September 16, 2008 - Frederick, MD -- For the past several years, there has been a growing level of criticism of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) project from some scientists, environmental groups, watchdog groups and civic groups. Each of the critics claim that the operation of the LHC poses a significant risk -- and one which should not be ignored by LHC operators -- of destroying all life on earth, or the earth itself, or, in some scenarios, the entire universe. Many of these critics have demanded that the project be abandoned due to these perceived dangers. In addition to the mainstream scientists and watchdog organizations that have weighed in with concerns, a number of voices in the New Age and spiritual world have also raised criticisms of the operation of the collider as well. The level of controversy over the LHC reached a peak in early September 2008 due to the fact that the LHC went online for its first operational runs on Wednesday September 10, 2008.
