A Japanese Farmer Wrote About Legendary Hobbit, Koropokkurs

A New Book for Children Has Came From Japan with Beautiful Illustrations.

(1888PressRelease) January 16, 2009 - Memuro, Japan – Japanese farmer-writer Akihiro released his first English book in the United States titled “Light of Love Forever”(ISBN: 978-0-557-03693-6) in January, 2009. This is the first time ever that a story by a Japanese farmer has been translated and published outside of Japan.

Originally, the book was published in Japan in July, 2005 and made a local smash in Hokkaido, the northernmost island and most important agricultural region of Japan. The land is rich in its legends including stories about Koropokkurs, a small hobbits living under butterbur leaves, and he added one with his imaginative fantasy. The new translated edition is illustrated by a unique “kawaii” drawings by Minori Uemura. They are rich in Japanese manga tradition although this is the first attempt for the illustrator to give her work to a book for children.

“My dream is to turn this story into a children’s musical,” the author states because he is also a local poet and musician. It is not surprising that the story has some songs as well as musical instruments in it. He added that “Koropokkurs are characters in a folktale from Hokkaido, but this story is my original. In the Hokkaido version, Koropokkurs are tiny characters that are slightly smaller than a butterbur plant, but according to the tale from my region, the Koropokkurs were wiped out from human intervention and strife. I will be addressing this issue in my story.” The story is named after three children Heiwa, Ai, and Yuuki, which in Japanese mean Peace, Love, and Courage. This is a story of love between the three children and the Koropokkurs.
