January 24, 2008 - Vernon, FL – City of Vernon Announces the Grand Opening / Public Reception of the New City Hall and Complex. A Historical Moment in The Heart of the Unspoiled Panhandle.
Taken for granted and often overlooked The Heart of the Unspoiled Panhandle also know as Vernon, Florida is excited to announce the Grand Opening of the New City Hall and Community offices.
Just a few months ago the dilemma was out growing the tiny building that the city operated from and how to justify the $625,000 that was quoted for the construction of a new building, that still wouldn’t provide a long term solution that Vernon needs.
The solution was Historical! The historical Vernon High school, was available and has proved to provide the Community with its exact needs. So restoration began and the New City complex is more beautiful then ever.
“School was worth saving! Why couldn't our kids, be going to school in something like this, and The additional rooms and buildings, make it inviting for businesses to expand into Vernon.” Stated City Counsel member Vivian Brewer, where just a few of the many comments made by the citizens of Vernon. In fact the New City Complex will house several government offices and charities, to include the New Annex office for Washington County Sheriff "Bobby" Haddock.
The sheriff is not the only one to see the potential of the New City Complex,
“The New City hall has come a long way, and is ready for the potential growth that Vernon has to offer. I am excited and looking forward to my new office located in the New Build” stated Donnie Strickland – Washington County Commissioner District 1
LVWC “Literacy Volunteers of Washington County”, Teen Court and Vernon Historical Society have also followed suit in new offices in the City Complex as well as new inquires everyday in the space that is available in the New City Complex.
The City is proud of the restoration and the amount saved on this historical building. The final cost was just around $225,000 and the long term effect it will share in the growth of Vernon is priceless.
With all the excitement and potential the City Counsel and Employees of the City of Vernon, would like to extend an invitation to everyone to come see and Tour the facilities of the newly remolded building at the City’s Grand Opening on Saturday January 26, 2008 2:00 p.m. located at 2808 Yellow Jacket Lane.
There will be a flag raising ceremony and Ribbon cutting, with a Reception following. The City would like you to attend this Historical Event, which will usher in a new era for the City of Vernon.
