March 30, 2007 - An former Scientist is to be an entrepreneur. Wyeth Vaccines Research hired this Scientist 6 years ago. Nelvin had taken part of flu vaccines, Flumist, research and development initiatives along with other vaccines like HPV and HIV. Nelvin left the pharmaceutical giant, a fortune 500 company, to form his own company, Laundry On Demand.
Nelvin grew up in Hong Kong. When I asked him how you became a Scientist. He said blessing, luck and persistent. “I was sending out hundreds of CV while my colleagues were playing video games in college.” “I truly believe rewards and success doesn’t come without one’s hard work and giving.”
Giving is to helping others. He added.
While I listen to Nelvin biography, I realized he did not take anything for granted in life. He was a Housekeeper, whom cleaned after people’s supper in an Alzheimer nursing home. He was also a nursing assistant whom provided cared to elderly for over 10 years to support himself through college.
Prior to his jobs in US, he had a disturbed childhood in Hong Kong. He said, “My life is like a great adventure book where chapter after chapter, memories after memories, and I am a sponge to soak them all. The road to success is about how to handle criticisms and success is not measure by others, it is measure within you. There is something to learn from others in every situation, every conversion, and every encounter and in every book.
The more events happening to you whether it is very sad or very happy, the more you learn the more tools you equip for the future. I guess that is why I choose a business. It is unpredictable in times but the self fulfilling reward that the science can’t explained...”
Nelvin did not comment in details why he left the cooperate world to form his own company but he stated that Wyeth treated him very well. “If I go back to science, Wyeth is the company to work for.” Nelvin said.
Laundry On Demand is a complete dry cleaning and laundries valet services that currently located in a small town Easton, PA. Nelvin created a website http://www.LaundryOnDemand.com and a toll free number 1-888-4-THE-LOD. For a start up company, Nelvin had performed everything right so far. He finished his profit analysis and company earnings forecast. He is now learning how to write a business plan to present to investors. I asked him how far do you want to take the company and why are you turning away from a highly respectable career to a highly risky business.
He smiled and replied,” I want to take Laundry On Demand Everywhere and become a household name like Comcast on demand cable. “Being a Scientist is great and that’s what my major was in college. I enjoyed my career at Wyeth that many others can be only dream of but the satisfaction can only come from within. I am not talking about greed but challenge. A very comfortable job is not what I am after at this age.
Business world opportunity is endless and it is more challenge. I like to take on this challenge to see where it will take me.”
