Denver, CO (1888PressRelease)
September 18, 2008 - The 8th Continent Project (8C) announced today its call for entries to the 2009 8C Business Plan Competition for venture proposals using space-derived technology that has immediate Earth-based applications. Formerly Lunar Ventures, the competition challenges university students from around the world to collaborate in creating business plans related to “Space 2.0” – or space commerce.
Prizes for the winning team include $50,000 in cash and in-kind professional services and a flight for two in a Zero Gravity Corporation aircraft. The 8C Business Plan Competition final rounds will be held April 24-26, 2009 on the campus of the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. Proposals are now being accepted under the guidelines posted at http://www.8cproject.com/BusinessPlanCompetition.html.
“We’re helping build an industry that capitalizes on existing knowledge to utilize space as a viable resource for commerce by encouraging students to get involved in creating not just space-related technologies, but business plans with real-world profit potential,” said Burke Fort, Director of the 8th Continent Project. “This competition really is designed to encourage students to look beyond a cool technology and dig down into how to bring that technology to market.”
Townsend and Townsend and Crew, intellectual property law firm and 8th Continent Project founding sponsor, will provide intellectual property advice and first patent application assistance to the winning team.
