Philadelphia, PA-NJ (1888PressRelease) July 02, 2008 - The South Jersey Caribbean Cultural and Development Organization (SJCCDO) brings a taste of the Caribbean to the Camden Waterfront. The 8th Annual South Jersey Caribbean Carnival will take place on Saturday, July 19, 2008 from 12 noon until 8:00 pm at Wiggins Park on the Camden, New Jersey Waterfront next to the Adventure Aquarium and the Susquehanna Bank Center.

The 8th Annual South Jersey Caribbean Carnival is a FREE family cultural experience that celebrates the rich, vibrant colors and the diverse cultures of the Caribbean islands. The Carnival features flamboyant costumed masquerade dancers, agile limbo dancers, moko jumbie (stilt walkers) and fire eaters. The children activities will include games, face painting, crafts, and a wall sized interactive paint by number mural. Cooking demonstrations will be presented by Janet Davis-Conyon of Scotch Bonnets Catering. Vendors will be onsite with arts, crafts, and foods of Caribbean such as jerk chicken, rice & peas, roti, and curry shrimp.

The sounds of Steel Drum, Reggae, Calypso, Soca and Latin Music fill the air. Kerwin Dubois will be performing his hit tunes including”Gyal Farm” (on the 2008 Soca Gold collection). The stage line up also includes performances by Camden’s own internationally recognized Puerto Rican cultural dance group Ritmo Boricua, the New Image Band, Dureck, Blessed Noble and from New York, the fabulous, high energy Something Positive Dance Company.

Linda Martin of Camden, NJ says “I definitely enjoy my day in the park. Free music and live entertainment on the beautiful Camden waterfront is great. Taking my family out is very expensive in today’s economy, I am happy that I can go to an event where I don’t have to pay any money to enter.”

The SJCCDO is particularly grateful to have supporters and sponsors that help fund the event such as Rutgers University - Camden, Camden County Cultural & Heritage Commission, IBM, Walt Whitman Arts Center, Islandmon.net, Champ Shipping, Camden City Mayor’s Youth Council and Comcast.

The South Jersey Caribbean Cultural and Development Organization is a not-for-profit organization based in Camden, New Jersey with the mission to promote understanding and awareness Caribbean culture through arts, music, and education.
