36th Annual Chariot Festival And Festival Of India In Toronto

(1888PressRelease) June 24, 2008 - Experience an uplifting weekend of spiritual awakening, blissful singing, dancing, Vedic knowledge, mantra meditation, yoga and more. Take part in the 3,000 year old tradition of Ratha-Yatra and join the parade down Yonge Street with three colorful chariots amidst rhythmic beats of drums, cymbals, chanting and dancing. Enjoy two days of outstanding culture and arts with dramas, dance, music, yoga demonstrations, a FREE VEGETARIAN FEAST and much more at Centre Island. Feed your Soul at the Festival of India.

Saturday, July 19th, 2008, Three colourful chariots (floats) are hand-pulled by thousands of people from Yonge and Bloor Streets to the lake at Queens Quay. The parade cruises through the heart of downtown Toronto amidst thumping kirtan (ancient mantras sung and chanted in a jubilant way). The parade begins at 11:00 am from Yonge and Asquith (just north of Bloor, at the Toronto Reference Library).

Festivities continue at Centre Island for the remainder of the weekend. Festivities at Centre Island commence at noon and eventually gather momentum as the crowd from the parade makes its way to the festival site. The festivities at Centre Island continue till 9:00 pm.

One of the main highlights of the Centre Island festivities will be a free vegetarian feast which will be served from 1:00 pm onwards.

Sunday, July 20th, 2008, Celebrated as a 'festival within a festival' the second day of the Festival of India will feature Yoga Meltdown. The festival site at Centre Island will start to buzz with activity by around noon on Sunday and will continue until 5:00pm. With a special emphasis on the yoga community, Sunday will feature live yoga demonstrations, mantra meditation, vegan cooking demonstrations, and amazing kirtan! The free vegetarian feast will be served from 1:00 pm onwards on Sunday.
