July 20, 2009 - Witness lives change at the 2nd Annual “You are the Gift: How Much Are YOU Worth?” conference. This special event will bring together over 250 girls, 12-16, their parents and professionals that serve them to explore and celebrate self-esteem and confidence. Guest speaker Monica Marie Jones, renowned author who has published three books and gearing up for the release of her fourth book SWAG. She will join Camille Jamerson, a former pageant winner, and other awesome women during the August 8 day-long extravaganza. Numerous other inspirational women like Kalyn Risker and Kimle Mitchell will also share their success stories.
Girls in this age group, especially in high-risk urban environments like Detroit, are at their most impressionable and insecure. You are the Gift is the second annual conference planned by Helping Individuals Succeed Agency president Derschaun Sharpley. The anticipation of a jam-packed day will inspire and teach self-worth, communication, relationships, financial stewardship, health and fitness, etiquette, peer pressure, and inner and outer beauty. Hands-on workshops and labs will include self-defense, cooking demonstrations, a spa zone with mini-manicures, and more. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided, as well as giveaways and prizes. Every girl will receive a goodie bag filled with journals and beauty products, and other goodies!
The event will take place at The University of Michigan Fairlane Center, at 19000 Hubbard Dr., Dearborn, MI 48126, on Saturday, August 8, 2009 from 8:00am-3pm. Special thanks to all of our sponsors like the YMCA, Dr. Bruce West, and Dr. Amy Parker, for making this event possible.
