Jamaal Al-Din is a former leading scorer at Mountain Home High School in Idaho, for Coach Ed Palubinskas. Al-Din is originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan. His High School basketball coach, Ed Palubinskas is developer of the "Smartball," advertised on ESPN and NFL Network. Palubinskas is an Olympic basketball record setter and former free throw tutor of the great Shaquille O'Neal. Palubinskas is an alumni of BYU-Idaho (formerly Ricks College) and LSU. Jamal Al-Din, ironically attended West Virginia Wesleyan College which is where Press Maravich (father of LSU's legendary "Pistol" Pete Maravich) began his coaching career, prior to coaching the LSU Tigers.
